Hilton Head, SC — Baldwin Aviation Safety & Compliance, headquartered in Hilton Head, South Carolina, has begun offering a specially designed Safety Management System, RotorSMS, to helicopter operators, and it is already attracting significant attention from some major sources. The program has been reviewed and accepted by the United States Forest Service (USFS) which has added Baldwin Aviation Safety & Compliance to its list of recommended resources. “It is apparent that your company provides the level of safety that we would like for our service providers to implement. With that in mind…our operators will be encouraged to contact you directly for further information,” wrote R.G. “Ron” Hanks, Chief of the U.S. Forest Service’s Aviation Risk Management and Training Systems in a letter acknowledging his review of the Baldwin SMS.
The Forest Service has implemented an SMS approach to accident prevention and currently requires each contractor to develop and implement a safety system program. In an average season, the USFS employs over 300 aircraft in a variety of missions including firefighting, low-level reconnaissance, game surveys, law enforcement and other support missions for natural resources programs. Hanks estimates that USFS operations average more than 80,000 flight hours per year with a current average accident rate of 5.4 per 100,000 hours. “We believe that this rate can be lowered through a change in the aviation safety culture,” he added.
Baldwin Aviation Safety & Compliance has customized its core safety program, which was originally developed for smaller fixed wing flight operations, to fit the specific needs of the helicopter community. “Our RotorSMS program incorporates tools similar to those we use in our basic program, tailored to rotary wing operators,” explained Don Baldwin, president of Baldwin Aviation Safety & Compliance. “Subscribers to RotorSMS enjoy the benefits of saving time and money, including favorable consideration for insurance premium reductions and resource discounts…and they’re able to meet contractor requirements like those of the U.S. Forest Service. The beauty of our program is that we can have our clients up and running in just a few days,” he added.
The RotorSMS program is a comprehensive, cutting-edge safety program with online delivery that includes a tailored Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and Operations Manual, forms and reports, safety tracking system, and e-Surveys. It provides timely delivery of Operational Messages, automatic notification of changes and updates to Operations Manual and the ERP, and advanced notice of regulatory changes. It also simplifies compliance to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and IS-BAO regulations, standards, and practices. Baldwin further explained, “We’ve developed the program in collaboration with key insurance industry leaders and experienced operators and flight department veterans and we work closely with our clients to implement and maintain the SMS standards.”
Baldwin, who headed both the Texaco and Coca Cola flight departments and is a former chairman of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Board of Directors, leads a highly experienced staff of experts who have combined their expertise to develop Safety Management Systems that are based on proven techniques, established resources, and consistent monitoring of client operations.
Headquartered on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Baldwin Aviation Safety and Compliance was founded in 2004 to assist flight departments in meeting regulatory requirements and establishing safety-oriented operating standards quickly and affordably. It’s the first and only firm of its kind to achieve the International Standard for Business Aviation Operations (IS-BAO) Registration for its safety program, receiving certification in February, 2007. IS-BAO is a code of best practices which essentially structures ISO 9000 principles to apply to aviation safety.

Thame chinnor and Friends of the Earth - accompanied by a life size cardboard prime minister - is to draw attention to the outside world Thame Town Hall 10 hours.
The group wants the government, the new law on climate change for all sources of carbon dioxide emissions, the share of the United Kingdom, including emissions from international aviation and shipping. Boris Johnson, MP for the constituency of Henley, will be able to defer the vote on the law, if it is debated in parliament later this month.
Thame Chinnor and Friends of the Earth, the measure as part of a national day to support the work of The Big Ask, Friends of the Earth’s campaign for a strong Climate Change law.
Friends of the Earth launched the campaign for a law on the high Climate Change The Big Ask. The law, which will be introduced this summer, is revolutionary, but FOE says, must be strengthened, if the UK’s role in the fight against climate change.
The proposed government bill does not from the UK emissions from international aviation and shipping. Friends of the Earth believes it is ridiculous to assert that these emissions, there is not, and it would be unfair to treat air and shipping to Unlike other sectors of the economy. You say that the government has already published figures on aviation emissions, and there is no practical reason why they are not involved from the outset. A way of shipping, including emissions should be worked as a top priority, said the group.
“Aviation is a fast-growing source of carbon dioxide emissions. Government figures released in January 2008, showed, aerospace, 6.4 percent for the United Kingdom carbon emissions [ 1]. impact of aviation emissions is twice as much carbon dioxide alone because the other gas pump aircraft at the height of [2] ”
The Big Ask, Friends of the Earth’s climate campaign, Boris Johnson called to vote for a law stronger than climate change:

The aircraft, a 19-seat Beechcraft 1900D, membership Wings Aviation, a charter operator has not found. The plane left Lagos, Saturday, March 15 on a mission to bring Liyel Imoke, the Governor of Cross River State, in the Obudu and steal in Abuja. He never came Obudu. If the days around, the wind blowing, so does the flame of hope with regard to the fate of three men crew.
Shortly after the disappearance of the aircraft, it was announced two air-top brass from various departments promptly announced that the wreckage was found. On his breath was short-lived, as both wiederrufte officials, which requires a lot of curiosity and increasing doubts about his competence and credibility and that of the organizations that supervise. Several agencies aviation has been under way for some probably rings (Crash), pages, but have come in contact with anything. Politicians and technocrats, speeches, exhibits and threats ball.
Some of them still have painful truths of the state of our national civil aviation, infrastructure and protocols. One of them is that the Nigerian authorities does not weaken the national airspace radar has been registered even after the sum of N19 billion has been, according to reports from the Federal Aviation Executive Council as a fund ‘ intervention, a few years ago. The Fund was established for the provision of the need for security and nautical facilities for the safety of flight operations in the country. From this moment, there is a debate on the question of thunder, which funds.
Saving our concerns about the lack of infrastructure National Aeronautics a Top Officer of the Nigerian Airspace Management of the Agency (NAMA), has talked about the possibility of an airplane disappear without trace: “It can happen again and again, because the infrastructure is not Da. If it is a way of monitoring, such as radar, the controller would have pointed out (the surface) to leave the country or descending. So, we left the pilot refers to the position. ”
Testifying experts five years ago, a total of radar coverage of Nigeria, also known as TRACON, was launched by the administration of NAMA, then multi-billion naira. It is also said that only six months in the 15 months of the project, there was a change in the direction that the NAMA and new methods of project management TRACON cast and came away with a safe-Tower project, which had several minutes and another financial burden. Shortly thereafter, the promoters of the safe-Tower project has been dismissed, and this led to a different policy of the plethora of scales on the radar. The result of all this is almost radar coverage of the nation persists until today, and that leads to pain, derision and inefficiency, which we are witnessing, and the portrait of the world.
It has been shown that the continuation of the pier Obudu in Cross River State, contrary to the usual practice, did not run or controlled by the authorities in Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Department of the Airports Authority or NAMA of Nigeria (FAAN). The owner of the gate is said, the Cross River State government. The state has refused, on the functioning of the gate on each of the three agencies underlisted. Industry observers say that this could have an operational problem.
Based on the above, it seems that the problems with Nigeria, airspace management have to do with questionable competence in critical condition, along the ulterior motive of the chain of command , poor coordination and policy Salto, mostly to changes in management.
These problems are simple, visible and easy to handle, once the power of right and the management is in place. But the consequences of these problems avoidable fatal consequences which have proved their effectiveness for our compatriots and damaging to our image nationally and internationally.
It is time that we have the competence in principle and men in these sensitive positions. Once we have done so, we should give them the tools and moral support necessary for the job.

Businesses in the Oxford-Milton Keynes-Northampton arc are promised greatly improved transport linkages when Oxford Airport completes construction of a brand new business aviation centre this summer.
The new facility replaces the existing general aviation facility and will offer more space and a fresh, modern design. Oxford Airport is working toward offering a fully fledged executive handling operation, for which management is currently recruiting for a customer services manager and up to five customer service representatives.
A new airport manager is also being sought for later this year, when the current manager Doug Roberts retires. Furthermore, the airport envisages the creation of up to 20 more jobs over the next six months in administrative and operations positions as it focuses on the expanding business aviation market.
The move comes at a time when its movements and corresponding noise and emissions have decreased by 67 per cent over the last 10 years mainly due to a decline in the historically dominant pilot training traffic.
On the positive side, business-related aviation at the airport has doubled over the past three years, currently bringing in about 10 visits a day. The new terminal, specifically designed to cater for this market, represents the first phase of investment by Oxford Airport’s new owners, who purchased it last summer from BBA Aviation.
Oxford Airport managing director, Steve Jones said: “Business aviation is the most buoyant sector in the market right now and we are extremely well placed to build on the activity we are currently generating. “We have a lower cost base, compared with the London airports which cater for business aviation, are an hour’s drive from the west end of London and importantly, we have slot availability to offer an extremely appealing alternative,” said
Overlooking the main business aircraft apron, the airport’s new facility will give crews easy access to their aircraft, offering amenities more akin to those in a smart ‘boutique’ hotel.
Separate lounges will be provided for crews with additional rest areas, along with VIP and ‘VVIP’ zones for passengers, assuring maximum anonymity and privacy. Private shower rooms, a crew kitchen and meeting rooms, together with police, customs and immigration facilities will also be provided for within the new facility. The new business terminal will offer a relaxing environment with a contemporary twist and will cater for fly-in board meetings with private meeting rooms available for hire.
NASP security compliance (passenger and baggage security screening) will be available to charter operations, whilst the enhanced scale of the terminal will allow for the occasional charter of small regional aircraft (up to 50-seats’ capacity), which are now welcome at Oxford with its new runway and the anticipated higher rescue and fire fighting category

Its importance is that it has been made by relatively small private companies not by the aerospace giants under government contracts, as has been the case with the other craft that have reached space.
SpaceShipOne uses a hybrid rocket motor which is a mixture of solid fuel (in this case a form of rubber) and a gas (nitrous oxide also known as “laughing gas”).
The rocket has been built by SpaceDev and the rest of the soon to be spacecraft by Scaled Composites, a company with an impressive aerospace track record.
It was behind Voyager, which in 1986 became the first aircraft to fly non-stop around the world without refuelling.
Rocket-powered aircraft are nothing new. In 1947, Chuck Yeager became the first person to break the sound barrier in the rocket-powered Bell X-1 aircraft.
In 1963, the US X-15 rocket plane was dropped from beneath the wing of a B-52 bomber, firing its rockets to make a sub-orbital hop reaching 107km (66 miles) and “officially” entering space.
One engine, one pilot
SpaceShipOne is going for the Ansari X-prize worth $10m. Looking back, prizes have played a major role in spurring feats of aviation. The Ansari X-prize is just the latest.
In the early years of the last century, the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper offered a series of aviation prizes including $50,000 for the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic.
